Remembering Peter Broome, a letter from Kevin Thistle

Remembering Peter Broome, a letter from Kevin Thistle

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Peter Broome, a respected leader, friend and passionate advocate for the game of golf, following his courageous battle with ALS.

Peter's impact on golf spanned decades and reached well beyond the business of the game. A proud Canadian and native of Montréal, Peter began his career as a golf professional before embarking on an extraordinary 30-year career with Acushnet Company, where he ultimately served as Senior Vice President of Titleist Brand Management and Industry Relations. Throughout his career, he was a tremendous champion of golf professionals, building relationships, strengthening partnerships and helping advance the game in Canada and around the world.

His contributions to the game were recognized with several prestigious honours. In 2025, he became the 10th recipient of the PGA of Canada's George Cumming Distinguished Service Award, one of our Association's highest honours. That same year, he received the Golf Canada Foundation Legacy Award for his philanthropic leadership and lasting impact on golf in Canada and around the world. He was also named an Honorary Member of the PGA of America. Most recently, in 2026, Peter was inducted into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame in the Builder category, a fitting recognition of a lifetime dedicated to advancing the game.

What made Peter so special was not simply what he accomplished, but how he went about it. He believed in the people who make golf what it is, and he understood the important role PGA Professionals play in growing and strengthening our sport. His influence will be felt for generations.

On behalf of the PGA of Canada, I extend our deepest condolences to Peter's wife, Sandy, his children, grandchildren, family and many friends and colleagues throughout the golf industry. Peter leaves behind an extraordinary legacy, and we are grateful to have been part of his journey.

He will be deeply missed.
